BUPA Great Manchester Run 20th May 2012.

Another successful outing for our Northern athletes at the Great Manchester BUPA 10k, (May 20th 2012)

Both the men's and women's teams held off close competition from Wales in the women's race and the Midlands in the men's.

Individual performance of note; the ever young Haile Gebrselassie recorded the fastest 10,000m time in the world this year to win his fifth Great Manchester Run.

The Ethiopian, 39, clocked 27 minutes and 29 seconds to beat compatriots Tsegae Kebede and Ayele Abshero, and secure a fourth win in a row.

Closer to home in the women’s race Gemma Steel (midlands) in 9th in 33:42 lead home strong Northern performances from 12th Rachel Bamford 35.20 and Feclicity Milton 13th in 35.33.

In the men's race Matt Clowes (midlands) 15th in 29.48 followed by Andy Ward 21st in 30.16, and Gareth Raven 23rd 30.23 both North.

A big thank you to Ann Griffiths who team managed for the ladies and to Kirsten Scobie for endeavouring to pull together a strong women’s field. Thanks also to Pete Riley of NOVA for the invite and support to Northern Athletics.
